What I’ve Been Eating Lately: Part One

Seafood Pad Thai

Pad Thai island-style: I ate this tasty version in a little roadside cafe on the beautiful Thai island getaway of Koh Chang. Perfect combo of sweet and savory, with a healthy serving of fresh shrimp, octopus and squid.

Green Papaya Salad

Green papaya salad: a Vietnamese, less spicy, version of the popuar Thai dish; I made this one in a cooking class in Hoi An, Vietnam. Fresh,a tad sweet, a tad acidic. Sooo delicious

Thai Ice tea

My obsession: thai iced tea. A hot brewed tea mixed with sweet & condensed milk poured over ice. Addicting.

Vietnamese Food

Some typical food of Hue, Vietnam; rice noodles with veggies and crispy pork; rice rolls, fish sauce. A meal I consumed in a hidden alleyway of Hanoi

Ginger kumquat juice, garnished with peanuts. Unique flavor combination; refreshing and delicious. Enjoyed in a vegan restaurant in Saigon.

Fried Tarantula; ate this little fellow at a roadside stand in the Cambodian countryside. Crunchy, a tad hairy, nutty flavor with fishy undertones. Not terrible, but not too delicious either.

My favorite breakfast while in Cambodia: found at street venders around Phnom Penh; crispy, smokey grilled pork, a runny fried egg, plus sweet and spicy pickled veggies; served with a sweet & strong ice coffee… perfection

One of my favorite breakfasts in Saigon; cold rice noodles with egg, chinese kale, with a sweet soy sauce, garnished with peanuts, dried onion and chili sauce + bonus fried spring roll. About $1.20

Southern style beef noodles, with green papaya, bean sprouts, and dried onion; warm, savory and sweet.

Chicken Pho in Saigon

Chicken Pho; big tender chunks of chicken, rich and savory broth, mixture of noodles served with various fresh herbs. Ultimate comfort food.
